for fathers, wherever they may be.

Father’s Day is one holiday I find a bit awkward. Maybe it’s because of the turbulent relationship I have with my father. Maybe not. Yet, it is a holiday I am grateful for. I am grateful for my friends, strangers and their fathers. I am grateful they have someone they can rely on. Someone who can consistently support them and be their guide.

Growing up, I was constantly ‘envious’ when fathers came to pick my high school and university classmates. It was a joy seeing how their fathers were so happy to see them. I always wanted that.
If you are reading this, please know I am cheering your fathers. I hope the love never departs.

For those whose fathers took unexpected journeys to the other side, I yield my love to you. I cannot imagine how you feel on a day that forces you to remember. But I know you carry them in your hearts. The love you shared with them is a flame that keeps burning. It will never end.

For us, kids with lost fathers; I hope we never stop healing.
It is a lifetime process of healing from the fact our fathers are breathing, just not in our lives. It never ceases.

However, for those who wish to be fathers someday, I hope you set better standards, love your children, show them kindness in infinite ways. To them, be the sort of father you always hoped your father would be to you.

I am eternally grateful for all who have stood in the gap of my father’s absence, and still, continue to do so. I love you in a million ways than none. Happy Father’s Day.
